While I was driving to work the other day I couldn't help but notice that the suburb I work in was having their annual kerbside collection. A lot of people think not much of this, but for me it immediately puts a smile on my face and I start to get excited about just what I might find. After work yesterday I drove around the streets and was absolutely astonished at what some people throw out as junk!! Tables, chairs, plates, cupboards, pot plants, kids toys it is absolutely incredible. It also saddens me that people are too lazy to take their items down to the local thrift store or if they are big items, organise for them to pick them up from their house! People have now become crazy consumers and we simply throw away so many things.
As the saying goes, someones trash is somebody else's treasure. I scored a cane basket, an old boudoir 50's stool, 2 vintage shabby brown stools, a magazine rack (with minimal rust) and last but not least 3 rattan stools! I still have not decided how I am going to restore these items, but when I do, I will keep you all up to date with the process. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please send them through!
If you are not afraid of going out there and hunting down peoples junk then I strongly suggest going onto your local council's website where full details of each suburb sould be available.
